Snapping Turtle
A complete "HOW TO" video on snapping turtles
If you enjoy fishing and trapping this video is for you. Our family has been in the
trapping snapping turtle business since the mid 1940's.
Turtle meat is considered a delicacy in many countries as well as the U.S. The snapping
turtle is a reptile and the meat has the texture of frog legs and or lobster. The myth
behind the seven kinds of meat is a falsehood. There are only two kinds of meat in a
snapping turtle light and dark. The four legs and the tail are dark meat while the neck
and the back straps are white meat. This video will show you how to remove the meat from
the shell and prepare it for cooking. Our video will enable
even the inexperienced to successfully catch, handle, butcher, prepare and cook a snapping
turtle. This video was shot over a period of 3 days on a Michigan river. With Gregg
Kashenider a well known and respected trapper in the mid Michigan area. During this
expedition there where 26 turtle caught. Gregg talks about the habitat, food sources and
general nature of the snapping turtle. This video contains some very exciting and
dangerous footage along with a very detailed butchering process where the turtle meat is
prepared for the kitchen. Then on to the kitchen for some of Gregg's grandmothers recipes
as he prepares one of the most exquisite delicacies of the wild.
